Count to 5

1--Mississippi -- 2-- Mississippee -- 3-- Mississippee -- 4-- Mississippee -- 5-- Mississippee

Here's a quick tip I gave to Shauna, as her daughter switches from the pump to shots during fall sports season: When you give your Lantus (long acting insulin) shot, be sure to count to 5 before taking the needle out.

Since that Lantus shot can be relatively large volume, in Shauna's case 32 units, there's a little bit of pressure that can push some of the insulin back out of the body as you withdraw the needle. A quick 5 count gives the body a chance to absorb some of it to keep your dosage accurate.
