The Promise of Stem in Wisconsin

The potential of embryonic stem cells as a means to cure diabetes become more validated day by day. Last month Three UW-Madison scientists invented a method to coax embryonic stem cells to turn into pancreatic islet cells. The procedure has the potential to greatly increase the number of islet cells available for transplantation into diabetic patients. The only other proven alternative is pancreatic donation from cadavers- where supply simply cannot meet the demand.
